Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Patient Care Assistant (CNA) to join our healthcare team. As a Patient Care Assistant (CNA), you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. This position requires a patient-focused individual who is capable of working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Provide direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff, including assisting with personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, and exercise. Ensure that patients' needs are met promptly and efficiently.
- Vital Signs Monitoring: Regularly monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates. Report any significant changes to the nursing staff.
- Medical Assistance: Assist with medical procedures and treatments as directed by the nursing staff. This includes preparing patients for procedures, setting up equipment, and providing support during medical interventions.
- Patient Environment: Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for patients. Ensure that patient rooms are clean and stocked with necessary supplies. Help with the maintenance of patient equipment.
- Documentation: Accurately document patient care activities and observations in the patient's medical records. Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Provide emotional support and information to patients and their families as needed.
- Mobility Assistance: Assist patients with mobility, including moving them in and out of beds, chairs, and wheelchairs. Help with walking and physical therapy exercises.
- Nutritional Support: Assist with meal preparation and feeding for patients who require help. Monitor and record dietary intake and report any issues to the nursing staff.
- Hygiene Assistance: Help patients with bathing, grooming, dressing, and other personal hygiene needs. Ensure patients are comfortable and maintain their dignity.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency calls and alarms. Provide basic life support and emergency care as needed until professional medical personnel arrive.
- Patient Advocacy: Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights and needs are respected. Provide compassionate care and support to improve their overall well-being.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Certification: Must have a current and valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. Completion of a state-approved CNA training program is required.
- Experience: Previous experience working as a Patient Care Assistant (CNA) or in a similar role within a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, moving patients, and standing for long periods.
- Compassion and Empathy: A strong sense of compassion and empathy for patients is essential. Must be able to provide care with sensitivity and respect.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills and attention to detail. Ability to accurately monitor and document patient conditions and care activities.
- Basic Life Support (BLS): Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred. Training will be provided if not already certified.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and healthcare environments.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. Must be cooperative, collaborative, and supportive of colleagues.
