Medical Assistant (MA) Multi-specialty

PIH Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the South Gate Medical Office Building (SMO). This full-time, regular/at-will position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $21.00 to $30.00. As a Medical Assistant, you will work under general supervision to perform a variety of clinical procedures and patient-specific duties. You will be expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Medical Assistant scope of practice and adapt to any changes. Your role will also involve processing all outside referrals, including HMO and PPO, and maintaining accurate records while notifying all concerned parties of the outcomes as required. The ability to float between departments and periodic travel is essential. As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for providing care with consideration to age, utilizing approved processes to meet the biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of patients and their significant others. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, which may include walking and physically assisting patients. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required, and fluency in Spanish is preferred. You will need to demonstrate strong clinical skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to handle cash transactions accurately. Honesty, dependability, and conscientiousness are key attributes for success in this role. A current AHA BLS certification is required.

Required Skills

• Ability to resolve biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of patients
• Capability to work in a fast-paced environment with considerable walking and physical assistance for patients
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and patient safety measures
• Current AHA BLS certification
• Adaptability and accuracy with good visual acuity and motor coordination
• Strong clinical skills
• Basic math skills and ability to handle cash transactions
• Strong computer skills (data entry and typing)
• Honesty, dependability, and conscientiousness
• Knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other record keeping systems
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduation certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Competency validation by a PIH Health supervising physician in case of practice acquisition
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience with a physician/practice in case of practice acquisition
• Minimum six (6) months of front and back medical office experience
• Two (2) years of front and back medical office experience preferred
• Spanish speaker
• Pediatric experience a must
• Valid California Driver’s License if hiring into Medical Assistant Float Pool
• Ability to maintain composure in fast-paced situations and communicate effectively in a high-activity environment
