Job Description: Certified Pharmacy Technician

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in providing safe and efficient pharmaceutical services to patients. Responsibilities:

  1. Medication Dispensing: Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently. Count, measure, pour, and label medications according to prescription orders and regulatory requirements.

  2. Prescription Processing: Receive prescription orders from patients or healthcare providers, enter prescription information into the pharmacy computer system, and process insurance claims. Verify prescription details, refill authorizations, and patient information for accuracy.

  3. Inventory Management: Maintain pharmacy inventory by ordering, stocking, and organizing medications and supplies. Monitor stock levels, check expiration dates, and rotate inventory to ensure product freshness and availability.

  4. Medication Reconciliation: Assist in medication reconciliation processes, including reviewing medication lists, identifying discrepancies, and communicating with patients and healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies and ensure medication safety.

  5. Patient Assistance: Interact with patients, answer phone calls, and provide assistance at the pharmacy counter. Greet customers, answer questions about medications, refill status, insurance coverage, and other pharmacy-related inquiries.

  6. Compounding: Prepare compounded medications, such as creams, ointments, and oral suspensions, under the supervision of a pharmacist. Follow established compounding procedures and safety protocols to ensure accuracy and quality.

  7. Quality Assurance: Perform quality control checks on prepared medications, including visual inspections, accuracy checks, and documentation of interventions. Report any discrepancies or concerns to the pharmacist for resolution.

  8. Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy practice, including HIPAA privacy rules, controlled substance regulations, and pharmacy policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or certification from an accredited certifying body (e.g., PTCB or NHA) as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred.

  2. Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or in a healthcare-related field preferred but not required. Familiarity with pharmacy terminology, prescription processing, and medication dispensing procedures.

  3. Certification/Licensure: Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from a recognized certifying body preferred. State licensure or registration as required by state regulations.

  4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in using pharmacy computer systems, prescription processing software, and other technology tools commonly used in pharmacy practice. Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.

  5. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and team members in a courteous and respectful manner.
